NEW YORK INT'L GIFT FAIR (NYIGF) ACCENT ON DESIGN Summer'08

We couldn't be happier after being selected to exhibit in the prestigious Accent On Design at this summer's NYIGF. Not only was our second trip to NY a major success, we had the opportunity to meet with friends and professionals that share the common interest towards design and lifestyle.

While it has been just a few days since we returned to our hometown in L.A., we already have a few newer, eye popping designer products cooking in our office that will be heading your way for next year. At the same time, we hope that our products will bring joy and laughter to your customers for this coming holiday season.

We would like to take this opportunity to thank all of you for stopping by our booth to see our full line of collection from talented designers from abroad. We look forward to meeting you all again very soon.

SAURS' Iron Sculpture Exhibition

Koichiro Tokumochi's art studio, SAURS, has been one of our long time partners ever since we started MollaSpace. Below are his recent works exhibited in various events and exhibitions across Japan. All his iron sculptures are individually handmade with precise calculation of how the shadows will cast on to its surroundings.
Below, each sculpture resembles a Chinese character (From top: "潤" Moisten, "愛・ぬくもり" Love and Warmth, "寂" Sadness)

Chinatsu Ban & Kaikai Kiki Co., Ltd.

Some of you may have recognized this elephant from a much larger yellow version that was displayed in NY during Takashi Murakami's "LITTLE BOY" exhibition held back in 2005 in Central Park.

Chinatsu Ban, a Japanese artist (born 1973), is the designer behind the elephant+underwear motif. She is currently one of the artists featured under Kaikai Kiki, an art studio launched by Takashi Murakami in 2001 to help produce and promote young Japanese artists. Having studios in Japan and in NY (Brooklyn), they currently have 6 up-and-coming artists under Murakami.

Pictured here is a miniature stuffed version of the previously exhibited, Pan-chan the Elephant, by Chinatsu Ban. Another new addition to our Japan office's collection... (http://english.kaikaikiki.co.jp/)

New Designer Addition - GOODY GRAMS

As part of our Fall/Winter'08 collection, we are proud to introduce to the U.S. for the first time, Goody Grams from Japan.
Goody Grams is not the “g” (gram) used to express measurement of a physical weight/mass, but instead symbolizes the “weight of the value” expressed throughout their collection. It is to express the “weight” in which one can sense from the design, material, technique and other values created by the designer and its balance between human senses and surrounding.
Here are some of the newest items to arrive for this fall (Black Deck of Cards and Black Baseball), along with another surprise to be unveiled very soon.

AtoZ Cafe by Yoshitomo Nara + graf

If you know Takashi Murakami, then you probably know Yoshitomo Nara, two Japanese contemporary artists taking spot light around the world. Recently, Sotheby auctioned one of Murakami's anime-sculpture for $15 million...need we say more.

Ok, enough about Murakami. This AtoZ Cafe is a collaboration between Nara and graf, a Japanese creative unit based in Osaka. The cafe is located in Aoyama, Tokyo. Located on the 5th floor of a small low-rise commercial building, the inside is very cozy with a lodge in the center of the floor exhibiting his work. What was also surprising was that this lunch set cost only 1000yen/each (incl tax)! Considering that it is located in Aoyama, an area where LV, Gucci, Prada's and the likes are showcasing its almighty brand power, it was nice to see that some high-profile owners are more people minded. Well, whether you think 10 bucks is cheap or not is something else, but with a coffee included in this lunch meal, it's a pretty good deal in the heart of Tokyo. Hmm, talked more about the food than his art work...

New Pet @ MollaSpace Japan Office

Now that we have an office in Tokyo, we will try and bring you some of the newest items we can find here in Japan and in nearby countries. For example, this is something we found at a boutique Japanese tableware store in Aoyama, a posh area well-known for its chic boutiques. They carried something so irresistable, that we decided to get one for ourselves (sorry!). Yes, it is a tiny goldfish (made of ceramic), but attached to a hollow glass ball, allowing the fishes to float inside the fishbowl! Very detailed and so Japanese.
